Youngest of four from a wealthy family, Ira had fewer expectations than his older siblings. He reluctantly starts a path to serve the chantry at the urging of his parents. He agrees to do so because he grows close with a fellow chantry dude, Alan. Ira was ready to ask him to be romantic partners, until Alan says he cares more about serving the chantry, and is uninterested in pursuing a relationship with Ira. Crushed, Ira leaves the chantry and assists his family with their horse farm (this is why they’re rich lol).Ira cares deeply about being able to empathize with others. He wants to help as many people as he can, and can sometimes dip into people pleasing in the process. As Inquisitor, Ira uses his position to uplift those who have faced persecution or otherwise unjust treatment, such as mages and elves.Ira and Dorian marry shortly after Trespasser.

Derwyn was born into clan Lavellan in 9:17, with his mother being the clan alchemist and his father a hunter born in the city. His father faked his death when Derwyn was a small child to leave behind his life in the clan. From then on, Derwyn wanted to become a hunter and continue his father’s work. However, his mother was very disapproving of anything Derwyn did that didn’t fit into a supposed “woman’s” role.At age 12, Derwyn was eager to change his body to align with his gender. So when his mother denies giving him potions to do so, Derwyn resorts to having the clan mages (including the Keeper) perform a blood ritual to change him. He ultimately survives, and feels comfortable for the first time in his own skin.At age 18, Derwyn earns the vallaslin of Ghilan’nan for his keen sense of navigation during his hunter trials. About a year later, he is attacked by a bear during one of his hunts, resulting in the scar on the right side of his face.~ 2 years the Conclave, Derwyn would regularly visit human cities with his friend Elian, where the two of them would engage in casual hookups with the locals. After a bad incident with a transphobic human, Derwyn swore off to hookups, and his distrust for humans (especially men) deepened. Following that incident, he and Elian became fuck buddies, and agreed that should no other prospects arise, they would have a platonic marriage.Derwyn and Dorian marry within six months after defeating Corypheus, and keep their marriage private until after Trespasser.

Mervyn was born into clan Lavellan in 9:37. He lived the typical life of a Dalish child, until the attack on Clan Lavellan when he was 4 years old. The attack left him orphaned, and with the help of another Lavellan survivor, managed to get to the orphanage in Kirkwall, where he would like for 3 years. Despite making his way to safety, the (mostly human) caretakers at the orphanage regularly mistreated him, furthering his fear and distrust of human adults.After 3 years of Mervyn living in the orphanage, the former Inquisitor Derwyn learns about the child from his clan, and promptly adopts him (age 7). Mervyn is plagued with nightmares from the night of the attack, and is very wary of strangers and crowds (especially humans). Now living with a new family with one (or two, if ModernAU) human father(s), it takes time for Mervyn to establish trust and feel safe in a new environment.At age 14, Mervyn begins a romantic relationship with his best friend, Carmen.

Born in 9:40, Diara was the oldest child of two farmers. She came to her magic at 4 years old, much to the worry of her mother. One night, she had a nightmare and started a fire in her sleep, resulting in her home and most of the family’s crops burning down. Her father and infant brother perished, but she and her mother survived. Her mother, under the guise of taking them to safety, left Diara in a cave near Kirkwall, never to return. After a few days of waiting, Diara wanders to the city, in search of her mother and anyone or anything that can help her. She’s found by the former Inquisitor, Ira, and his husband Dorian, who take her to their home. They decide to take Diara in, and after several months, formally adopt her as their daughter.At a young age, Diara is afraid of magic, especially fire. Growing up, she develops issues with self-worth and a fear of abandonment rooted in that fear. She’s constantly worrying that she will never be good enough for anyone, even herself, and will only be a harm to others.At age 18, Diara enters a relationship with two men, Junius and Siarl, and the three of them become a throuple.

Carmen is a young mage from Kirkwall. His parents own a bakery in Lowtown, and his older brother Alvin is training to be a templar. He is transgender and bisexual. His boyfriend is Mervyn.Junius Auremis is a magister from Tevinter. After his father died at a very young age, Junius’s mother assumed the role as House Auremis’s Regent while he was officially the seat holder. Before coming of age, Junius watched as his mother voted and voiced towards many causes that Junius feverently disagreed with. As he began to voice his own opinions, she became more firm in using her position as regent towards motions she deemed fit, which heavily countered with Junius’s. Junius formally joins the Lucerni when he comes of age to assume his seat in his own right.Siarl is an elf from Tevinter. He was enslaved at a very very young age, to the point where he doesn’t remember his family. He was told his records state that he had parents and a sibling -- both of whom were free -- at the very beginning of his life. After meeting Diara, she connects him with some contacts (probably the Shadow Dragons) who help him escape Tevinter. He ends up in the Free Marches following his escape.
